In the midst of a crucial JDU (Janata Dal United) meeting in Bihar, all eyes are on the party's National President, Lalan Singh.
Speculation is rife that Singh might tender his resignation during the meeting scheduled for 29 December.
If he steps down, it could pave the way for a prominent leader to take the reins of JDU.
As per reports by Jagran, among the leaders garnering the most attention is Ramnath Thakur, the son of former Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur.
Despite not being widely known, Ramnath Thakur is gaining prominence as a potential successor. Currently serving as a Rajya Sabha MP from JDU, he maintains a strong foothold in the party.
Thakur has a significant political background, having previously served as a member of the Bihar Legislative Council.
During Nitish Kumar's tenure as Chief Minister from 2005 to 2010, Thakur held key ministerial portfolios, including Revenue, Land Reforms, Law, Information, and Public Relations.
Hailing from Karpoori Ganj in Samastipur district, Ramnath Thakur's identity is closely associated with his father, who was a stalwart leader from the Extremely Backward Classes (EBC) community.
As the JDU navigates this pivotal moment, the prospect of Ramnath Thakur taking charge brings forth a potential shift in leadership dynamics.
The political landscape in Bihar may witness a new era under the leadership of a leader with a legacy rooted in social inclusivity.
