Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding two things related to Guru Ravidas, a 15th-century spiritual sage of the Bhakti Movement.

One is renaming the Adampur airport in Punjab after Guru Ravidas, as PM Modi has expressed in his last campaign rally for the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab's Hoshiarpur.

Jakhar said that this is a "long-pending demand" and will go a long way to "underpin the ethos of spirituality in the diversity that binds India."

The other is developing the areas around the Guru Ravidas temple into a "serene Vatika (garden)" as the Tughlakabad temple, which was demolished in 2019, will be recreated.

Modi had spoken about his government's initiatives to honor Guru Ravidas, including the foundation stone of a memorial in Madhya Pradesh and promotion of the Tughlakabad site, Delhi, associated with the Guru.

Jakhar said that this will be a befitting tribute to Guru Ravidas. He added that the garden will enhance the shrine's appeal and inspire people to soak in the egalitarian teaching of the Guru.
