The 'Pran Pratishtha' of Lord Ram at Ayodhya temple was completed on Monday (22 January) with all religious rituals.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the religious ceremony as the Mukhya (chief) Yajmaan.
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat were also present in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple on the occasion.
The 51-inch murti of Bhagwan Ramlalla has been carved out of black stone by Mysuru-based artist Arun Yogiraj and represent five-year-old Lord Ram.
The Pran Pratishtha ceremony is being celebrated across the country with special prayers and various programmes at local temples. Further, Indian diaspora abroad is also planning to celebrate the momentous occasion.
The occasion has been hailed as a Diwali -- the festivities that marked Lord Ram's homecoming after the battle with Ravan and temples and houses have been strung with festive lighting.
A number of film stars, sportspersons, musicians, industrialists and other noted personalities have reached the holy town for the ground consecration ceremony.
Over 11,000 invitations have been sent out to noted personalities.
