The Bharatiya Janata Party led Mahayuti alliance has crossed the majority mark in the early official trends that are trickling in as counting for the Maharashtra Assembly elections is ongoing.

According to Election Commission's official figures for 267 seats, the BJP-led coalition is leading on over 200 seats, while the Congress-Shiv Sena (UBT)-NCP(SP) is ahead on around 47 seats.

The BJP is currently leading on 111 seats, while its allies NCP and Shiv Sena are ahead on 35 and 58 seats respectively.

Maharashtra's single-phase election, held on 20 November, witnessed a voter turnout of 66.05 per cent, an increase from 61.1 per cent recorded in 2019.

In the Mahayuti alliance, the BJP contested on 149 seats, the Shiv Sena on 81, and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP on 59 constituencies.

On the other hand, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi saw the Congress contesting 101 seats, Shiv Sena (UBT) 95, and NCP (SCP) 86.
