Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) has entered into a contract agreement with SYSTRA MVA Consulting (India) Pvt. Ltd to provide consultancy services for revising the travel demand forecasting study.
This study aims to facilitate the implementation of a Mass Rapid Transit System from Tambaram to Velachery (26 km), with a possible extension to either Guindy or Little Mount.
The revised study will be incorporated into the existing detailed feasibility report (DFR) as per a report by The Hindu Businessline.
The agreement was signed by T Archunan, director (projects) of CMRL, and Sandeep Fuller, senior vice president of SYSTRA MVA Consulting (India) Pvt. Ltd, in New Delhi, according to a release from CMRL.
The earlier DFR, submitted to the government of Tamil Nadu, only considered the corridor up to Velachery MRTS station and did not include connections to existing Metro stations through Velachery's main commercial and residential areas.
Therefore, the travel demand forecasting study is being revisited to incorporate these aspects.
