Going by the India Today-Axis My India exit poll, the Aam Aadmi Party is set to form a majority government in the MCD polls in the national capital.
As per the projected numbers, AAP is expected to win 43 per cent of vote share, while the BJP would retain its 35 per cent vote share. The Congress is expected to get 10 per cent of the total vote share.
In terms of numbers of seats, AAP could get 141-191 seats out of 250 wards while BJP may win 69-91 seats and Congress 3-7 seats.
Even the Jan Ki Baat-India News exit polls, gave the following numbers for MCD: AAP - 150-175; BJP - 92 - 70; Congress- 7-4.
The Times Now exit poll too predicted an AAP win in MCD.
Times Now numbers: AAP - 146-156; BJP - 84-94; Congress - 6-10; Others - 0-4.
The BJP had been in control in the MCD for the past 15 years.
If the exit polls hold, then the AAP would be able to experiment with its own "double engine" government in the national capital. Most importantly, it would be interesting to see how it goes on fulfiling its poll promise of getting rid of garbage in New Delhi.
If the projections hold, then victory for AAP in MCD would have come at a time when many of its ministers in the Delhi government are facing serious charges of corruption. The AAP would very likely to use its predicted victory to push back on that narrative.
