Launching fresh attacks on the Congress party, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has criticised Rahul Gandhi for launching the 'Bharat Dojo Yatra'. Dojo is a Japanese martial art.
On the occasion of National Sports Day on 29 August, Gandhi shared that during his 'Bharat Jodo Yatra', he had a daily routine of practicing jiu-jitsu, a Brazilian self-defence martial art.
"Bharat Dojo Yatra is coming soon," Gandhi said on X posting a video of him practicing jiu-jitsu during the Bharat Jodo Yatra along with children and other martial artists.
Taking a jibe at this, Mayawati said, "Isn't 'Bharat Dojo Yatra' a mockery of crores of families struggling with poverty, unemployment, inflation and backwardness and working hard to earn their living?"
Alleging that the Centre and State governments failed to arrange dignified livelihoods for crores of people, Mayawati questioned, "Why is the opposition party Congress employing a similar anti-people attitude?"
She accused Congress of getting votes of Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (SIT) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) in the name of saving reservation and the constitution and then forgetting them later.
"Congress and its INDI Alliance increased their strength by taking votes of SC, ST and OBC, but is it right to adopt this cruel attitude towards them forgetting their hunger and agony after election time is over?" she added.
"Politicisation of sports is harmful, it cannot be done anymore," the BSP supremo concluded. Notably, this is not the first time Mayawati has attacked the Congress after disappointing Lok Sabha election results.
The BSP could not win a single seat in the Lok Sabha elections, while the INDI Alliance won 43 seats in Uttar Pradesh. Of these, the Congress won six and its INDI ally partner Samajwadi Party (SP) won 37 seats.
Since then, Mayawati has been attacking the two parties, especially for their silence on the Supreme Court verdict urging sub-classification within SC an ST quotas and introducing a 'creamy layer' provision among them.
