Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, currently engaged in campaigning in Thiruvananthapuram for his fourth consecutive term, faced unexpected allegations from Supreme Court lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai.
Dehadrai has accused Tharoor of "molesting" a woman, a claim refuted by journalist Karan Thapar, who stated that the woman denied being molested by Tharoor when he spoke with her.
Dehadrai, known for his cash-for-query allegations against expelled TMC MP Mahua Moitra, accused Tharoor on social media platform X.
He alleged that the incident occurred in a hotel in October 2022 according to a report from The Tribune.
Thapar, mentioned by Dehadrai in connection with the alleged incident, refuted the claim and accused Dehadrai of attempting to tarnish Tharoor's image.
Dehadrai on X alleged Thapar of going “out of his way to protect dirty Shashi.”
Thapar questioned Dehadrai's timing, noting that the allegations were made public during the 2024 election campaign despite the incident allegedly occurring in 2022 when Tharoor was contesting for the presidency of the Congress.
Thapar stated that he had contacted the woman mentioned in the allegations, who denied them. Tharoor has not yet responded to the controversy.
