The Mumbai Police has now issued a look out circular (LOC) against Mihir Shah, who allegedly ran over a woman in Worli while driving a BMW.
He is the son of Rajesh Shah, MLA from Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.
According to a report from The Indian Express, the LOC was issued against Mihir, suspecting he might flee the country to avoid arrest.
Once an LOC is issued, the accused or suspect is prohibited from leaving the country via airports or ports. If they attempt to escape, immigration personnel can detain them and hand them over to the appropriate law enforcement agency.
At 5:25 am on Sunday (08 July), Mihir, allegedly crashed into a two-wheeler carrying the woman and her husband on Dr Annie Besant Road in Worli.
The impact flung Kaveri and Pradeep Nakhwa into the air, landing them on the bonnet of Mihir’s BMW. While Pradeep managed to jump off, Kaveri, could not and was allegedly dragged by Mihir’s car for some distance.
Kaveri was found seriously injured by the police and taken to Nair Hospital in Agripada, where she was declared dead.
Based on a complaint by Pradeep Nakhwa, who sustained a leg injury, the Worli Police booked Mihir Shah.
It has been alleged that Mihir was under influence of alcohol and had been to a bar. The Mumbai Police have collected CCTV footage from the bar and multiple cameras capturing the accident.
Earlier, the police had arrested Shah’s father, Rajesh Shah, and his driver Rajrishi Bidawat on charges of helping Mihir flee and destroying evidence. They will be now produced in the Bhoiwada Court today for further interrogation.
According to the same report, six police teams are searching for the absconding Mihir, who faces charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, among other offenses.
