NEET-UG Controversy: Supreme Court Seeks Exam Body NTA's Response On Petition By Learning App Over OMR Sheets

The Supreme Court today (27 June) issued a notice to the National Testing Agency (NTA) following a petition filed by a learning app that claimed "inconsistent" calculation of marks on the OMR sheets.

The court has directed the NTA to respond by 8 July, when a hearing on the matter is scheduled.

The petition raises serious concerns about the integrity of the NEET-UG examination, which was held on 5 May. The results of this exam, announced on 4 June, have been embroiled in controversy, with allegations of widespread malpractice and irregularities.

In a petition filed by Xylem Learning Private Limited in relation to NEET-UG 2024, the SC vacation bench of Justices Manoj Misra and S V N Bhatti sought NTA's response on the time limit for raising the grievance regarding the OMR sheets.

The petition, among others, also raised concerns about the grant of OMR sheets to the students who appeared for the exam.

The Court inquired if there was any time limit for raising the grievance regarding the OMR sheets.

The NTA's Counsel said that he would check it up.

However, Senior Advocate R Basant Basant, representing the petitioner, promptly submitted that no defined procedure exists to raise an objection, Livelaw reported.

Ultimately, the Court issued the notice and tagged it with similar petitions pending.

"Let us know if there is a timeline to provide the OMR sheets. As of now we will tag it. Let NTA seek instructions on this," the court noted and tagged the petition with others for 8 July.
