Nitish Kumar Proposed Rahul Gandhi's Name For INDI Alliance Chairperson, Lalu Yadav For Convener: Report

After Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge was almost appointed as the chairperson of the INDI Alliance, a new revelation came up that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar suggested Rahul Gandhi's name for the post.

NDTV citing its top sources said that Kumar's proposal was declined by Gandhi himself. And for the post of convener, Kumar had suggested RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav's name.

In INDI Alliance, the convener's post ranks below that of the chairperson's.

Reportedly, Kumar praised Rahul Gandhi for Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. This comes days after his party, Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], questioned Congress's decision to conduct its own yatra, rather than making it an INDI Alliance yatra.

Rahul Gandhi is said to have proposed Kharge's name for the chairperson post and this was endorsed by his mother Sonia Gandhi.

The finalisation of the post remains to be done as many key ally partners like Trinamool Congress' Mamata Banerjee, Samajwadi Party's Akhilesh Yadav and Shiv Sena UBT's Uddhav Thackeray missed the meeting.

Kharge wrote on X after the meeting that the leaders of the Coordination Committee had a fruitful discussion on the alliance.

"Everyone is happy that the seat-sharing talks are progressing in a positive way. We also discussed about joint programs in the coming days by INDIA Parties," he added.

Kharge said that he along with Rahul Gandhi invited all INDI Alliance parties to join ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ at their convenience and "use the opportunity to raise the social, political and economic issues plaguing common people of this country."
