As demand from investors for industrial land has increased in view of the upcoming Noida International airport, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has approved a plan to develop a 10,500-hectare stretch — along the 165km Yamuna Expressway to Agra.

The plan, approved during the 79th board meeting on Monday (29 January), aims to facilitate an environment for setting up manufacturing units, job creation, and unlocking fresh business prospects in the region.

The first phase of the greenfield airport is set to become operational by the end of 2024.

In the designated area — nearly half the size of Noida city — authorities plan to establish several Special Economic Zones (SEZ), making it the biggest industrial zone in the region once developed, according to officials.

“The board approved the Master Plan 2041, which also contains the blueprint of this mega urban centre. It will have four special economic zones and each zone will be home to one particular type of industry,” said Arun Vir Singh, CEO, YEIDA.

One SEZ is earmarked for the production of electric vehicles and related products. The second zone will be dedicated to manufacturing units for electronic products.

Further, another zone will be a hub for the production of semiconductors and related items, and the fourth SEZ will include the establishment of data centres.

As part of its plan, the authority also gave an in-principal approval for allocation of 125 acres to Tarq Semiconductors Private Limited, a Hiranandani Group company. The investment for this project is estimated to be around Rs 17,000 crore.

Further, the plan also envisions that workers should get accommodation in industrial units along the expressway. The authority has kept a target to develop housing and other facilities for 3.9 million population.
