Pakistan-China Relations Top Priority Of PM Shehbaz Sharif, Asks To Expedite Gwadar Projects

While reviewing the implementation of pacts with China, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted cooperation between the two countries in information technology (IT), communication, mining and energy sectors. 

On Saturday (6 July), he said that a new era of Pakistan-China cooperation has dawned and will lead to economic development and deepening of the long-time bilateral relationship, as per Business Standard.

He emphasised that China had always supported Pakistan in difficult times and wished to emulate its economic development. He explained about the recent visit of a Chinese delegation to set up shoemaking units in Pakistan.

China will also help Pakistan in the agriculture sector as 12 top Chinese companies are expected to participate in the Food and Agri Expo in Pakistan. Pakistan will also send 1,000 students to China for agriculture training.

On the business front, it was said that 100 Chinese companies are in contact with Pakistani companies to plan investments. Progress on China's communication, infrastructure, and electricity projects in Gwadar was also reviewed.

Sharif asked to expedite development work on Gwadar Seaport, Gwadar Airport, and Gwadar Industrial Zone and also speed up the negotiations for manufacturing solar panels and equipment with Chinese companies.

In the backdrop of recent attacks on Chinese nationals working in Pakistan, Sharif has asserted that no disruptions will be tolerated in the Chinese projects. He has also assured security to Chinese workers.
