Palestinian Flag Waved During Bangladesh-Pakistan Match In Kolkata, Four Detained

Four individuals were briefly held at Maidan police station for displaying a Palestinian flag during the Pakistan-Bangladesh World Cup cricket match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Tuesday (31 October).

Following initial questioning, all four individuals were released by the police.

According to a senior police officer, they are residents of Bally, Ekbalpore, and Karaya PS areas.

"We had detained them for waving the Palestinian flag near Gate 6 and Block G1," the IPS officer was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

According to the IPS Officer, the policemen posted at Eden Gardens were initially perplexed by the actions of the protesters.

"Then they waved the Palestine flag before being detained. They, however, did not raise any slogan," he added.

According to the PTI report, Kolkata Police said initial probe found out that the four, all in their mid-twenties, were protesting against the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza and chose the international match for their stir.
