"People Don't Want Drama, Disturbance": PM Modi's Message To Opposition Ahead Of Parliament Session, Remembers Emergency

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (24 June) said that the 18th Lok Sabha is beginning with a commitment to make India developed by 2047.

Addressing the media ahead of the session, he said, "It is for the second time that the ruling government won the third consecutive term. This happened after 60 years. This shows people's faith in us."

"We believe that a majority is needed to run the government but consensus is needed to run the country. I want to fulfill the aspirations of 140 crore Indians," the PM said.

"We want to give a pace to decision-making while being within constitutional boundaries... We have a good number of young MPs this time," Modi said.

"25 June is an unforgettable day. 50 years of Emergency will be complete on this day... This is a day to commit ourselves to the constitution values and lively democracy," the PM said.

Lashing out at Emergency, he said, "The Constitution of India was completely rejected, every part of the Constitution was torn to pieces, the country was turned into a prison, democracy was completely suppressed."

"We will make three times more efforts in our third term. We will bring three times more outputs," Modi said urging fellow MPs to work for the interests of the people and serve them.

"There are general expectations of debates and vigilance in the house. People don't want drama and disturbance. We need a responsible opposition," he expressed his expectation from the opposition.
