After speaking to US President Joe Biden regarding his recent visit to Ukraine, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also dialed Russian President Vladimir Putin to share 'insights' from his trip to Kyiv.
Modi said that in his conversation with Putin, measures to strengthen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership further were discussed.
"Exchanged perspectives on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and my insights from the recent visit to Ukraine. Reiterated India’s firm commitment to support an early, abiding and peaceful resolution of the conflict," he said.
Russia has been engaged in a war with Ukraine since February 2022. After his re-election as the PM of India, Modi went to Russia first and then to Ukraine.
With the Indian PM's visits to the two fighting countries, observers say that he might be trying to broker peace. Modi himself said that he went to Ukraine with a message of peace.
He also clarified that India is not neutral in this war, but instead has sided with peace. He has been urging for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve conflict.
In conversation with Biden also, Modi reiterated India’s full support for early return of peace and stability. Biden commended him for his message of peace and ongoing humanitarian support for Ukraine.
