PM Modi To Inaugurate India's First Under-River Metro Tunnel In Kolkata Tomorrow: Here's All About It

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate India's first under-river metro tunnel in Kolkata, marking a significant milestone in the country's urban transportation infrastructure.

Scheduled for tomorrow (6 March), the inauguration ceremony will not only showcase the groundbreaking tunnel but also feature the launch of several other metro and rapid transit projects across the nation.

The centerpiece of the event is the inauguration of the Kolkata Metro extension, highlighting the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade Metro section, which boasts India's inaugural under-river transportation tunnel.

Linking the twin cities of Howrah and Kolkata, the underwater metro encompasses six stations, with three situated underground.

This 4.8-km section, extending beneath the River Hooghly will seamlessly connect Howrah Maidan to Esplanade, forming an integral part of the East-West Metro corridor.

In addition to the underwater metro tunnel, PM Modi will also inaugurate other key sections of the Kolkata Metro, including the Kavi Subhash-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay Metro section and the Taratala-Majerhat Metro section.

These sections, part of the larger Joka-Esplanade line, aim to provide seamless connectivity and ease traffic congestion in the city.

Beyond Kolkata, PM Modi will launch various metro projects in other parts of the country, such as the Pune Metro stretch from Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi, Kochi Metro Rail Phase I Extension from SN Junction Metro station to Tripunithura Metro station, Agra Metro stretch from Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar, and the Duhai-Modinagar (North) section Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor.
