Seventy-six flats constructed on land previously owned by the deceased gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed were recently allotted to underprivileged individuals through a lottery system, according to an official from the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA).

During the program, Arvind Chauhan, the Vice-Chairman of the PDA, stated, "We acquired the land in the city where Atiq Ahmed resided and operated his office."

Chauhan highlighted that the flats were allocated based on the government's guidelines for reservations, considering Other Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, individuals with physical disabilities, and senior citizens. Each flat boasts modern amenities and comprises a bedroom, living room, kitchen, toilet, bathroom, balcony, as well as electricity, sewerage, and parking facilities, Chauhan added.

A representative from PDA mentioned that two four-storey towers were erected in the Lukarganj area, with each flat costing Rs 6 lakh. The beneficiary is required to pay Rs 3.5 lakh, while the central government will provide a subsidy of Rs 1.5 lakh, and the state government will contribute Rs 1 lakh.

Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were fatally shot at close range by three individuals posing as journalists during a media interaction on the night of 15 April this year. The incident occurred while they were being escorted by police personnel to a medical college in Prayagraj for a check-up.
