Continuing with the rapid expansion of Vande Bharat network, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to flag off the Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express on 29 May from Guwahati.
While the North East region will get its first Vande Bharat train, it will be third for West Bengal.
Operating six days a week, the semi-high speed train will connect Assam with West Bengal.
The eight-coach Vande Bharat Express will be a boost to tourism and economic activities in the region.
Earlier, in December 2022, the railways had launched a 16-coach Vande Bharat train from Howrah to New Jalpaiguri and the train is running full since its launching.
The semi-high speed train between Dehradun and New Delhi will cover around 410 km within 6 hours.
The latest launch for New Jalpaiguri is 18th Vande Bharat Express and two more such trains are expected to be operational in June.
The semi-high speed trains would be pressed into service in Ranchi-Patna and Mumbai-Goa routes next month for which preparations including trial runs are being carried out.
The Prime Minister had launched Puri-Howrag vande Bharat Express on 18 May and he would launch the 17th Vande Bharat from Dehradun for Delhi on 25 May.
