A grand event with 10,000 young men and women performing Assam’s spectacular Bihu dance in a bid to create a Guinness record will be the highlight of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Guwahati tomorrow (14 April).
Prime Minister Modi will witness this grand spectacle at the Sarusajai stadium in Guwahati on Friday evening. He will also hand over the Guinness World Records certificate at the end of the event to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Sarma told Swarajya that the mega event is being organised to showcase and celebrate Assam’s culture, and highlight the state’s tourism potential.
The Prime Minister will also lay the foundations of a slew of development projects and inaugurate several schemes during his visit to the northeastern state.
Here’s what he will do tomorrow:
Prime Minister Modi will dedicate the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Guwahati to the nation. Built at a cost of Rs 1,123 crore, AIIMS Guwahati will offer specialised treatment to the people of the entire northeastern region;
He will inaugurate three new medical colleges located at Nalbari, Nagaon and Kokrajhar from Guwahati;
The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of a state-of-the-art Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovation Institute (a joint venture between IIT Guwahati and the Assam Government) whose purpose is to leverage advanced technologies to transform medical science;
He will lay the foundation stone of a 12.21 kilometre-long bridge between Palasbari and Sualkuchi that will cost Rs 3,200 crore and is expected to boost connectivity in lower Assam;
The Prime Minister will launch a 500 tonnes per day methanol plant of Assam PetroChemicals Ltd at Namrup. The Rs 1,603 crore plant will boost the government’s efforts to promote clean energy;
He will lay the foundation stone of a Rs 124 crore project for beautification of Rang Ghar — a major historical site in Assam — at Sibsagar.
The Prime Minister will dedicate railway projects worth Rs 7,280 crore to the nation. These include new rail lines;
Modi’s engagements include the ceremonial launch of the distribution of 1.1 crore Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana cards;
The Prime Minister will also attend an event to mark the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Gauhati High Court.
