'Radicalised' Teenager Shot Dead By Australian Police After Knife Attack In Perth

In Perth, Western Australia, police fatally shot a 16-year-old boy who had wounded a member of the public with a knife and was described as "radicalised," according to a report by NDTV.

Premier Roger Cook stated that the teenager "rushed" at police after injuring someone and was shot by an officer.

"There are indications he had been radicalised online. But I want to reassure the community at this stage it appears he acted solely and alone," Cook said at a news conference.

The sequence of events began late on Saturday when police received a call from a male who threatened to commit "acts of violence" without revealing his identity or location, according to the state's police commissioner, Col Blanch.

Shortly after, another emergency call reported a "male with a knife running around the car park" in Willetton, a southern suburb of Perth, Blanch explained.

Body camera footage showed that the teenager refused to comply with officers' orders to drop the knife, Blanch stated. Despite the use of two Tasers, "neither had the full desired effect," he added.

"The male continued to advance on the third officer with a firearm, who then fired a single shot, fatally wounding the male," Blanch said.

The teenager later died in hospital that night, he confirmed.
