Reasi, Kathua, Doda: What We Know So Far About The String Of Terror Attacks In Jammu Region

A series of terrorist attacks has rocked the Jammu & Kashmir region, with three separate incidents occurring in just three days.

These attacks have sparked a wave of fear and prompted heightened security measures in the region.

Reasi

The recent spate of violence began with a terrorist attack on a bus carrying pilgrims from the Shiv Khori temple to Katra in Reasi.

The attack, which occurred on Sunday (9 June), resulted in the bus careening into a deep gorge, killing nine people and leaving 41 others injured.

Kathua

Following the attack in Reasi, two terrorists who reportedly infiltrating from Pakistan recently, attacked villagers in Saida-Sukhal village in Kathua district on Tuesday (11 June) and injured a civilian.

The terrorists, who had infiltrated the area, raised suspicions when they began asking for water from several houses.  When villagers raised an alarm, the terrorists fired randomly, injuring one person.

The ensuing confrontation between the terrorists and the police resulted in the death of one terrorist who attempted to throw a grenade at the police party.

The other terrorist, however, managed to escape and is believed to still be hiding in the village.

Security forces are now using drones to hunt for the second one in the Hiranagar area of Kathua.

An AK assault rifle and a rucksack were recovered from the possession of the slain terrorist whose identity and group affiliation were being ascertained.

Doda

On Tuesday (12 June) night, six security personnel were injured in an exchange of fire between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district, following an attack on a joint checkpost.

Terrorists opened fire at a joint party of police and Rashtriya Rifles at an army base in Chattargala area late last night, according to J&K Police ADGP Anand Jain.

An encounter is underway between the security forces and the terrorists in the higher reaches, he said.

ADGP Jain also called the Kathua attack a "fresh infiltration" and pointed at Pakistan without naming the country.

"It is our hostile neighbour who always tries to damage the peaceful environment in our country. This (Hiranagar Terror attack) appears to be a fresh infiltration," he said.
