Telanagna Congress chief Anumula Revanth Reddy, who played key role in the party's victory in the 30 November Assembly elections, took an oath as the state's second Chief Minister on Thursday (7 Decmeber).
The oath of office was administered to Reddy by Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan at a ceremony held at Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium in Hyderabad before a crowd of nearly 1 lakh.
In addition to Reddy, 11 members of his cabinet took the oath of office.
This included Mallu Bhatti Vikaramarka, who was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister.
Among the new cabinet members was also former Telangana Congress chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy, who had previously opposed Revanth Reddy's appointment as Chief Minister.
The remaining eight cabinet members included Sridhar Babu, Ponnam Prabhakar, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Damodar Rajanarasimha, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Dana Anasuya, Tummala Nageswar Rao, Konda Surekha, and Jupally Krishna Rao.
The ceremony was attended by Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to Reddy, giving his assurance of complete support for the progress of Telangana.
Before he took the oath of office, Reddy and Sonia Gandhi held a victory lap inside the stadium in an open vehicle.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi, under the leadership of K Chandrashekar Rao and in power in Telangana since its inception in 2014, was decisively defeated by the Congress. The latter won 65 of the 119 Assembly seats available.
