Delhi Police has arrested a man who allegedly attempted to convert several government shelter home inmates to Islam.

Police arrested Mohammed Kalim based on a complaint filed by Sandeep Sagar, the caretaker of the rain basera (shelter home) at Turkman Gate in central Delhi.

Kalim has been charged under Sections 153A and 295A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Sagar, in his complaint, accused Kalim of pressuring him and some of the shelter home's inhabitants to convert to Islam.

The accused, Sagar claimed, had successfully converted a male inhabitant of the shelter home to Islam, according to a senior police officer cited in The Hindu report.

The officer added that Kalim, who holds a BTech in Computer Science, has been sent to judicial custody.

Following this incident, Delhi BJP President, Virendra Sachdeva, blamed the AAP government for “not monitoring” the rain baseras.
