In a momentous address at the SemiconIndia 2023 event in Gandhinagar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined India's aspirations and achievements in the semiconductor industry.

1. India's Emerging Role In Semiconductors: PM Modi emphasised India's growing significance in the semiconductor industry, positioning the country as a conductor of global opportunities.

2. Showcasing India's Skill, Capability, And Capacity: PM Modi proudly highlighted India's skillful workforce, technological capabilities, and substantial capacity in the semiconductor domain. He aims to leverage these strengths to benefit not only the country but also the global semiconductor market.

3. National Quantum Mission: PM Modi announced the approval of the National Quantum Mission, showcasing India's commitment to cutting-edge technology and innovation.

4. Focus On Education: The government identified over 300 colleges to offer semiconductor courses, paving the way for a skilled workforce to meet the industry's demands.

5. Ambitious Design Engineer Target: India aims to have over 1 lakh design engineers within the next five years, reinforcing its commitment to becoming a hub for semiconductor design.

6. Global Responsibility: India understands its global responsibility and aims to be a trusted and reliable chief supplier of semiconductors to meet the world's needs.

"India understands that the world requires a trustworthy, dependable chief supplier of semiconductors. What better place to start than the world's largest democracy?" remarked PM Modi.

7. Technological Advancements: The Prime Minister highlighted India's impressive technological progress, with the reduction of extreme poverty and the rise of a neo (tech-savvy) middle class.

The youth, who have never used a basic bike, are now leaning towards purchasing an electric bike, added PM Modi.

8. Internet And Power Connectivity: PM Modi acknowledged the widespread availability of the Internet and seamless power supply in rural areas, catalysing India's technological advancements.

"India had 6 crore broadband users in 2014." That figure has now risen to over 800 million, representing an increase of 80 crore users. There were 25 crore internet connections in 2014; presently, there are over 85 million online users. "These figures show the country's progress," PM Modi added.

9. Electronics Sector Growth: India's electronics sector has witnessed remarkable growth, with production crossing $100 billion, transforming the country from an importer to an exporter of high-quality mobile phones.

10. Financial Assistance From Central Government: To support and incentivise the semiconductor industry, the Prime Minister announced that players would receive 50 per cent financial assistance from the central government. This move aims to boost investments and encourage innovation in the sector.

The glimpse into the speech showcases India's determination to lead the charge in the semiconductor sector and reinforces its position as a key player in the global technological landscape, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
