The Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhank Committee (SGPC) has blamed BJP's MP-elect Kangana Ranaut after the actor-turned-politician was slapped by a CISF constable at Chandigarh airport, allegedly over 'disrespecting farmers'.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable who allegedly slapped the new MP has been identified as Kulwinder Kaur. She has been suspended, and a first information report (FIR) has been filed against her.
In a video statement on X after the incident, Ranaut said she is safe, but is concerned about rising terrorism in Punjab.
"I am safe. I am perfectly fine. The incident happened at the security check-in. The woman guard waited for me to cross. She then came from the side and hit me. She started throwing expletives. I asked why she hit me. She said 'I support farmers'. I am safe, but my concern is terrorism is rising in Punjab. How do we handle that?" Ranaut said.
The CISF constable said she was upset with Ranaut over the actor-turned-MP's "Rs 100" statement during the farmers' protest.
"She had given a statement that the farmers are sitting there for Rs 100. Will she go and sit there? My mother was sitting there and protesting when she gave this statement," the constable said.
In a statement, the SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami said that Kangana Ranaut's "hateful comments" against "Punjab and Punjabis" are not in country's interest.
The SGPC President said that Kangana Ranaut's saying that terrorism is increasing in Punjab is "an expression of her sick mentality".
He said that it is not good for the country to ignore the mutual harmony and social relations of the people in the country just to be popular by forgetting the history.
"But Kangana Ranaut is deliberately walking on this path," the SGPC statement said.
Dhami appealed to the leading leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party to teach Kangana Ranaut a lesson of self-control and moral values.
He also "demanded" that there should be an in-depth investigation into the causes of the incident at the Chandigarh airport to see if Kangana Ranaut made any mischievous arguments to "create an atmosphere of hatred against Punjab".
