Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Abhishek Ghosalkar was shot dead during a Facebook Live on Thursday (8 February) evening. Mumbai Police investigation reveals why the accused may have killed him.

Accused Mauris Noronha was Ghosalkar's old rival and he believed that a rape case filed against him in 2022 was registered at the behest of Ghosalkar, for which he had to stay behind bars for three months.

Not only this, he also thought that due to this rape case, no major political party was willing to give him a ticket and blamed Ghosalkar for ruining his political career. After killing Ghosalkar, he shot himself too.

During Crime Branch's questioning, Noronha's wife said that her husband harboured immense hatred towards Ghosalkar and had decided to take revenge against him. The apparent patch-up between the two may have been part of Noronha's plan.

The two leaders had recently “patched up” and were doing the Facebook Live as Ghosalkar believed that Noronha had clout in the Catholic community in the IC colony area of Borivali, from where Ghosalkar was a former ward corporator.

Ghosalkar was the son of former Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Vinod Ghosalkar, while Noronha was a businessman. The weapon used to kill Ghosalkar was Noronha's bodyguard, Amerinder Mishra's firearm, for which he is in police custody till 13 February.
