Sixth And Final Wolf Killed, Bringing Relief To Villagers In UP's Bahraich After Months Of Terror

A six-member wolf pack that had terrorised the Mahsi region of Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, for several months has finally been eliminated after villagers killed the last remaining wolf on Saturday (5 October).

The animal was beaten to death as it attempted to hunt a goat after allegedly failing to prey on a child.

The wolf pack had instilled fear among the locals for months, attacking both villagers and their livestock.

The final wolf, which had eluded capture for more than 24 days, managed to evade forest department teams who had been continuously attempting to catch it.

Earlier on 10 September, forest officials had successfully captured the fifth wolf of the pack.

The killing of the sixth wolf has provided much-needed relief to the villagers, who had endured months of terror.

The wolf pack had previously killed nine children and a woman, and injured more than 50 others.

Ajit Singh, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Bahraich, stated that they were alerted to the incident at around 8.30 pm on Saturday, India Today reported.

By the time they reached the site, both the goat and the wolf lay dead.

According to Singh, the sixth wolf cannot be confirmed as man-eating, as no attacks had occurred after the capture of the fifth wolf.

However, it is believed to be a member of the same group that had terrorised the region.

A thorough investigation is underway by the forest department, and an FIR is expected to be filed regarding the incident.

The sixth wolf was likely left isolated following the capture of its packmates, and its death marks the end of the wolves' menace in the region.
