Sri Lankan High Commissioner designate to India Milinda Moragoda is likely to bring to India a stone from Sita Eliya, which is a village located in the central province of Sri Lanka where Mata Sita is believed to have been held captive by Ravana in ancient times.
The stone would then be used in the ongoing construction of the grand temple of Lord Ram in the holy city of Ayodhya.
The development was shared by the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka via its official Twitter handle, reports Times of India.
The tweet reads, "A stone from Sita Eliya in Sri Lanka for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya will be a pillar of strength for India-Sri Lanka ties."
The tweet further added that the stone was received at Mayurapathi Amman Temple by the High Commissioner designate of Sri Lanka to India in the presence of the High Commissioner. The handover of the stone took place on bygone Thursday (18 March).
Meanwhile, it should be noted that there is a temple in Sita Eliya which is dedicated to Sita. It is believed that the temple marks the place where Sita prayed during her captivity.
