Stating his commitment to "fundamental political change" with transparent, caste-free, and corruption-free administration, popular Tamil actor Vijay has officially launched his political party.
Named, 'Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam', he said, "We are making an application today to the EC to register our party...Our goal is to contest and win the upcoming 2026 assembly elections and bring about the fundamental political change that people want."
"Politics is not just another career for me. It is a sacred people's work. I have been preparing myself for it for a long time. Politics is not a hobby for me. That is my deepest desire. I want to fully involve myself in it," the actor added.
As reported earlier, around 200 members of the party's general council had attended a meeting on 30 January to finalize key positions, appoint the General Secretary and Treasurer, and constitute a Central Executive Committee.
Known as the next Rajinikanth of Tamil cinema, explaining his political move, actor Vijay further said, "You are all aware of the current political climate....Everyone, especially, in Tamil Nadu is yearning for a fundamental political change that can lead to a selfless, transparent, caste-free, visionary, corruption-free and efficient administration".
The actor also said that the party plans to conduct public meetings and events during which they will present their policies, principles, and action plans, as well as introduce a flag and party symbol.
However, In a major announcement the actor stated that the party will neither contest the 2024 general elections nor support any party in the upcoming elections.
