Tamil Nadu's ruling Dravaida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) came under attack after three leaders of different political parties were allegedly killed in 24 hours.

In three separate incidents, one functionary each of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADM), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress were hacked to death on Sunday (28 July).

AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Sathyan attacked the "lawlessness and breakdown of law and order in the state." He alleged that the accused are associated with the DMK and the police are "clueless" on how to act.

AIADMK ward secretary Padmanabhan was murdered in the Cuddalore district while driving his two-wheeler. Two people have been detained for questioning, as per the police.

"They may have committed murder due to enmity. Two persons named Murali and Sridhar from Navaneetha Nagar area of Cuddalore have been taken for questioning," Inspector PK Sajith of Bahour Police Station said.

From BJP, district secretary of Sivagangai Cooperative Division Selvakumar was hacked to death. State party president Annamalai claimed that the crime is a result of the fact that anti-socials do not fear the government.

The Congress has not spoken on the matter as it is DMK's ally. The series of political murders began when earlier this month, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Tamil Nadu president K Armstrong was killed.
