Telangana: Growing Demand Within BRS For Old Party Name After Election Setback

In the aftermath of the loss in the recent state assembly elections, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is facing internal demands from party leaders and cadre to revert to its former name, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).

As per reports by Economic Times, the suggestion has gained momentum as party members believe that the removal of "Telangana" from the name has contributed to a disconnect with the state's populace.

According to party sources, the push for a name change has been voiced by several party workers during ongoing preparatory meetings led by BRS Working President, K T Rama Rao, son of former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

These meetings, organized on a Lok Sabha constituency-wise basis, aim to gather suggestions from the cadres and analyze the reasons behind the recent electoral setback.

"In every party meeting, some leaders and cadres are asking the senior leadership to change the name to TRS. They feel that without Telangana, the party name appears to have caused a disconnect with people," noted a senior BRS leader.

The name change to BRS in 2022 was intended to broaden the party's reach beyond Telangana.

However, the party's defeat in the assembly elections has led to a reconsideration of this decision.

The renaming issue is among the top reasons attributed to the party's electoral setback.

K Chandrasekhar Rao, popularly known as KCR, had spearheaded the name change as part of broader plans to expand the party's influence.
