The Supreme Court on Wednesday (10 May) agreed to hear a plea by the makers of 'The Kerala Story' against the West Bengal government's decision to ban the move in the state.
The plea, which was mentioned before Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud by Senior Counsel Harish Salve on behalf of the petitioners, also challenged the decision of the Tamil Nadu multiplex association to withdraw the movie from its halls.
The apex court will hear the plea on Friday (12 May).
"We are losing money everyday and now another State says they will do the same," Salve said, reports Bar and Bench.
"Ok, list on Friday. Serve copies on the State of West Bengal," the CJI said.
The Adah Sharma-starrer movie has been directed by Sudipto Sen and was released in theatres on 5 May.
The movie, narrating the ordeal of three women who are trafficked to ISIS camps after being converted to Islam through marriage, has already kicked up a political storm across the country.
The Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal on Monday (8 May) banned the film, citing 'maintenance of peace" and to avoid incidents of "hatred and violence" in the state.
On the decision to ban the film, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, "It is to avoid any incident of hatred and violence, and maintain peace in the state," reports NDTV.
