'TMC Is Fighting For Existence': PM Modi Confident Of Massive Gains For BJP In West Bengal Lok Sabha Elections

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be the biggest gainer in West Bengal as the Lok Sabha election process nears its conclusion.

In an interview with news agency ANI, PM Modi stated that the election in West Bengal is "one-sided" and that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders are "frustrated".

PM Modi highlighted the BJP's performance in West Bengal during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, predicting significant success for his party.

"In Bengal elections, TMC party is fighting for existence. You must have seen it in the last assembly elections, we had three seats. The people of Bengal took us from three to 80. We got a lot of support in the Lok Sabha in the last elections. This time, the best-performing state in India is going to be West Bengal. BJP is getting most success in West Bengal," he said.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP made substantial gains in West Bengal, securing 18 seats and coming in a close second to the ruling TMC, which won 22 seats.

PM Modi said that the current elections are heavily tilted in favor of the BJP, leading to panic within the TMC government.

He cited incidents of violence and arrests of BJP workers as evidence of the tense political atmosphere.

The Prime Minister also addressed the Calcutta High Court's decision to cancel all Other Backward Classes (OBC) certificates issued in West Bengal after 2010.

He criticised the TMC and Congress for allegedly engaging in religion-based reservation practices, which he said are unconstitutional.

Referring to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's refusal to accept the High Court's verdict on OBC certificates, PM Modi accused her government of undermining the judiciary for political gains.

PM Modi said, "They have a modus operandi. First, they started the sin of giving it to minorities by making a law in Andhra Pradesh, they lost in the Supreme Court and the High Court rejected it because the Constitution does not allow it. So they cleverly started the game from the back door and these people overnight made all the castes of Muslim as OBCs and they robbed the OBCs of their rights...When the High Court's judgment came, it became clear that such a big fraud was taking place. But what is even more unfortunate is that for vote bank politics, now they are also abusing the judiciary. And they are even saying that no matter what happens, we are not going to listen to the court. This situation cannot be acceptable under any circumstances."

As of now, six phases of the Lok Sabha elections have been completed, with the final phase scheduled for 1 June in 57 constituencies across eight states and union territories.

The election results will be announced on 4 June.
