In line with the Budget announcement, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday (18 September) approved Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan with total outlay of Rs 79,156 crore.
Of this, the Centre will contribute Rs 56,333 crore, while the States will give Rs 22,823 crore for improving the socio-economic condition of tribal communities.
The focus will be on saturation coverage for tribal families in tribal-majority villages and aspirational districts. It will cover 63,000 villages benefitting more than 5 crore tribals.
The Mission comprises of 25 interventions which will be implemented by 17-line ministries in the next five years. The goals include enabling infrastructure and economic empowerment.
Health and education are also the focus. For this, tribal hostels will be set up in schools at the district/block level and Mobile Medical Units will be used for immunisation.
The tribal villages covered under the Abhiyan would be mapped on the PM Gati Shakti Portal with the gaps identified by the concerned department for its scheme-specific requirements.
1,000 tribal homestays will be promoted to tap into the tourism potential. There will be a special focus on 22 lakh Forest Right patta holders residing in forest areas.
For effective marketing of tribal products and for improving marketing infrastructure, awareness, branding, packaging, and transportation facilities 100 tribal multipurpose marketing centres will be set up.
