The Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested two individuals accused of demanding Rs 1 crore as extortion money from the owner of a coaching centre in Prayagraj.

The George Town police station has arrested Rahul Singh Parihar aka Swabhiman Singh and Badal Singh, residents of Lalapur and Jaunpur respectively.

They are history-sheeters as Rahul has four cases lodged against him, while Badal has three. They are accused of assaulting staff at the coaching centre in Tagore Town on 11 September.

The police have booked Rahul Singh Parihar, Badal Singh, Praveen Shukla, Saurav Tiwari and a few unknown men on the complaint of coaching owner Vivek.

Station House Officer of George Town Rajeev Shrivastav was quoted as saying by Live Hindustan that the police are searching for the remaining accused.

The four accused have been identified from CCTV footage where they can be seen using bat to threaten the staff. They allegedly also threatened to set the coaching centre on fire.

The coaching owner told Amar Ujala that earlier on 4 September, the accused had threatened the staff and demanded Rs 50 lakh as extortion money within a week.
