Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (18 June) released Rs 20,000 crore as the seventeenth instalment of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) to around 9.26 crore beneficiary farmers during the e Kisan Samman Sammelan in Varanasi.
PM Modi was on the maiden visit to his parliamentary constituency Varanasi following his victory from the seat in the Lok Sabha elections.
During the programme, he also granted certificates to more than 30,000 women from Self Help Groups (SHGs) as Krishi Sakhis.
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi greeted the people of Kashi on his first visit after winning the Parliamentary elections from the constituency.
He thanked them for choosing him for the third consecutive time.
“Now even Maa Ganga seems to have adopted me and I have turned local for Kashi”, said PM Modi.
The Prime Minister reiterated the importance that he accords to farmers, narishakti, youth and poor as pillars of developed India and recalled that the first decision of the government after formation was about farmers and poor families.
These decisions regarding three crore additional households under PM Awas Yojna or instalment of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi will help cores of people, the Prime Minister said.
He also spoke about Krishi Sakhi initiative as a strong step in the direction of creating 3 crore ‘Lakhpati Didis’.
The initiative will ensure the dignity and assurance of source of income for the beneficiary women, the Prime Minister said.
After the event, PM Modi performed Ganga Poojan at Dashashwamedh Ghat in Varanasi, and also witnessed Ganga Aarti.
"Witnessing the Ganga Aarti in Kashi is a mesmerizing experience. The beauty of the sacred Ganga, brightness and devotion all around make it special," PM Modi said in a post on X.
Following the Ganga Aarti, PM Modi went to Kashi Vishwanath temple, where he performed pooja of Baba Vishwanath.
"I prayed at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple for the progress of India and the prosperity of 140 crore Indians. May the blessings of Mahadev always remain upon us and may everyone be happy as well as healthy," PM Modi said in a post on X.
