Vision 2047: NITI Aayog Charts Economic Transformation Blueprint For Mumbai, Surat, Varanasi And Vizag, Here's All About It

On Saturday (10 February), NITI Aayog CEO B V R Subrahmanyam disclosed that a comprehensive plan has been devised for the economic transformation of Mumbai, Surat, Varanasi and Vizag, aimed at propelling India towards becoming a developed economy by 2047.

Additionally, Subrahmanyam announced NITI Aayog's intention to extend economic planning to 20-25 more cities, recognising them as vital centres of economic activity, as per a report by The Economic Times.

A visionary document, charting the course for India to achieve a developed economy status with a GDP of $30 trillion by 2047, is currently in the works at NITI Aayog.

This document is slated for release by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Subrahmanyam emphasised a shift in focus from mere urban planning to comprehensive economic planning, exemplified by the economic transformation plans crafted for Mumbai, Surat, Varanasi and Vizag.

These plans are designed to drive significant growth and development in these cities.

Last year, discussions were held between Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and NITI Aayog officials to explore avenues to elevate the GDP of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) to $300 billion by 2030.

Furthermore, Subrahmanyam highlighted the government's initiative to gather insights from the youth of the country to shape the vision for India's development by 2047.

Over 10 lakh detailed suggestions have been received and are currently being analysed using artificial intelligence, following an outreach conducted through universities and educational institutions.

In 2023, NITI Aayog was entrusted with the task of consolidating 10 sectoral thematic visions into a unified vision for "Viksit Bharat @2047".

This overarching vision encompasses various facets of development, including economic prosperity, social advancement, environmental sustainability, and effective governance, among others.
