Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has released the trailer for his upcoming series, "The Kashmir Files Unreported."
Notably, this show is based on the research, archival footage, and interviews conducted for Agnihotri's 2022 movie, "The Kashmir Files."
"The Kashmir Files Unreported" will be a seven-part series available on ZEE5. As per reports, it explores the historical, ethnical, and geopolitical details surrounding the events that led to the massacre and mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley in the 1990s.
According to a statement from the streaming service, the series aims to encapsulate the mistakes, crimes, and circumstances that occurred during this tragic period.
The show incorporates conversations with historians, experts, real-life victims, and their families. These interviews provide valuable insights into the events and shed light on the experiences of those affected by the mass exodus, it is further revealed.
Vivek Agnihotri has said that he believes that "The Kashmir Files Unreported" serves as a "type of national archive" and will be a significant document for the future. It aims to preserve the historical record and ensure that the events of the past are not forgotten or misrepresented.
According to the filmmaker, various perspectives were considered in the creation of this document, including those of historians, individuals who served in the Army and police, Kashmiri Pandits, and victims whose stories were recorded on video. Extensive research was conducted and all the gathered information has been compiled into a document that will be preserved for future reference, he added.
During the research process, Vivek Agnihotri said that he and his team engaged with authorities in Kashmir and thoroughly examined Parliament records, archives, books, newspapers, international documentaries, and videos.
Further, he added that they had discussions with journalists who reported on the events that occurred in Kashmir during that time.
Agnihotri stated that through a thorough examination, they have compiled all the common elements and created a comprehensive series. The purpose of this series is to help people understand the individuals responsible for the genocide and terrorism in Kashmir.
By learning from this tragedy, viewers will gain valuable insights, he stressed.
According to the filmmaker, "The Kashmir Files," which was released in March 2022, received mixed reactions. However, he believes that it succeeded in opening people's eyes.
The upcoming series aims to evoke strong emotions and touch the hearts of the audience.
Notably, "The Kashmir Files" had received criticism for allegedly portraying only a fraction of the reality, with some considering it to be a propaganda film. To address these concerns, the filmmakers wanted to present their research and interviews in the purest and most unfiltered form, as per their statement.
Agnihotri has further said that he can assure that "The Kashmir Files Unreported" will deeply affect viewers, but the intention behind it is to learn from history. The series aims to foster a zero-tolerance attitude towards terrorism and encourage individuals to stand up for humanity and their own people.
"The Kashmir Files Unreported" will be a production of IamBuddha Entertainment and Media LLP, owned by Vivek Agnihotri and his wife Pallavi Joshi.
