West Bengal: BJP Leader Suvendu Adhikari Rejects 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas', Calls For Dissolving Minority Wing

West Bengal BJP MLA and Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari has stirred a hornet's nest by stating that the "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas" slogan, introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is unnecessary and suggested that the saffron party should eliminate its minority wing.

Adhikari while addressing state BJP's first working committee meeting after the Lok Sabha elections in Kolkata stated, “We will save Hindus and we will save the Constitution. I have spoken about nationalist Muslims and you all said ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’. But I will say it no more."

He further added, "Rather we will now say ‘jo hamare saath hum unke saath’. Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas band karo. There is no need for a minority morcha (for the BJP)."

During the recent Lok Sabha polls, the BJP saw its seat count drop to 12 from the 18 it secured in 2019.

Adhikari faced criticism from some BJP leaders due to his involvement in candidate selection for approximately 30 seats as per a report by The Indian Express.

Earlier, BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar acknowledged that the party cannot win elections solely by using central agencies to imprison leaders of the ruling TMC.

Majumdar reportedly stated, “At times, workers would ask for CBI action to arrest someone. They think that it will ensure a win in the constituency. But it will not happen. Workers may think that arresting a leader will ensure a win from the constituency. But that is not possible.”
