Union Home Minister Amit Shah was in Patna on Sunday (10 December) for the 26th Eastern Zonal Council meeting. During his visit, he also met Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Bihar leaders.
Since the Bihar caste census, the state's politics has been focused on caste dynamics. However, according to Jagran, Amit Shah asked the party's state unit to distance itself from this.
In the BJP core group meeting, the Union Home Minister met only 20 leaders. He focused that without opposing any caste or community, the BJP should aim to move forward with its predetermined electoral strategy.
Shah asked for the focus to be solely on public welfare, and said its success is anticipated in Bihar, similar to the election results in three other states (Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan).
In this meeting, state president Samrat Choudhary, leader of the legislative party Vijay Sinha, opposition leader in the Legislative Council Hari Sahan, former Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi, and Mithilesh Tiwari, among others, were present.
Shah outlined four lessons. He said that caste census is a non-issue in Hindi belt states and hence, the party should not worry about it. He suggested that while getting Muslim votes is difficult, there is hope for some Yadav votes.
Union Home Minister pointed out that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is not taking strong actions on public expectations and there is disunity within the opposition, which will work in favor of the BJP. He asked to continue election preparation as before.
The challenge is to maintain the winning streak in elections, which Shah considers crucial for the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's consistent electoral success. He has directed more efforts in the challenging Lok Sabha constituencies.
It has also been emphasised that Nitish Kumar was a part of the victory in the last election. Now, efforts are being made to fill the gap in Nitish's absence by including Jitan Ram Manjhi and Upendra Kushwaha.
