Udhayanidhi Stalin, the Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports, has announced that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government would announce the implementation of the Rs 1000 for women heads of family scheme, in five or six months.
He made the announcement while campaigning for EVKS Elangovan in Erode East.
This comes a couple of days after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president, K Annamalai had come down heavily on the DMK for not fulfilling its poll promises in spite of it being in power for 22 months.
He had said that the eligible women would have got Rs 24200 by now if the DMK had kept two of its promises. While Rs 22000 would be as per the aid promised to women heads of family, another Rs 2200 would be for the Rs 100 per LPG cylinder subsidy that was also promised to women.
Udhayanidhi justified the delay by saying that the previous All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) led government had left a debt of Rs 5 lakh crore and the country was going through the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. He added that his government had given Rs 4000 to every ration card holder as Covid relief.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) said that it has registered cases against the alleged distribution of pressure cookers to women by the DMK, after receiving complaints from opposition parties.
