Azam Khan, Wife, Son Convicted In Fake Birth Certificate Case; Will Weaken Abdullah's Juvenility Claim In Other Cases

Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan, along with his wife Tanzeem Fatima and their son Abdullah Azam Khan, was convicted by a court in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur and sentenced to seven years of jail on Wednesday (18 October) in a fake birth certificate case.

The case revolves around the issuance of Abdullah Azam Khan's birth certificate on two occasions. Abdullah Azam Khan is accused of using the first birth certificate for obtaining a passport and foreign tours, while using the second certificate for government-related purposes.

The first birth certificate, issued on June 28, 2012, by Rampur Nagar Palika, indicated Rampur as Abdullah Azam Khan's birthplace. Subsequently, in January 2015, a second birth certificate was issued, listing Lucknow as his birthplace, India Today reported.

Both certificates were fraudulently obtained as part of a pre-planned conspiracy. A case has been filed against Abdullah Azam Khan and his parents under sections 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

This marks another legal setback for Azam Khan and his son, who were previously convicted in a 2019 hate speech case by a Rampur court. Additionally, both are facing charges related to land grabbing.

Notably, Abdullah Azam Khan is also a convict in a 2008 criminal case, leading to his disqualification as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Uttar Pradesh.

However, he was seeking to defer the final order until the claim of juvenility was determined. Now with this 'two birth certificate case', his claim of juvenility will weaken and he may face punishment over charges of wrongful restraint and assault on a public servant.
