An investigation has been launched, and a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against Wen Johnson, a 24-year-old resident of Sydney. He is facing allegations of unlawfully entering the field at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera during the ICC Men’s World Cup final match between India and Australia.
Wen Johnson is facing charges under sections 332 (voluntarily causing harm to any person serving as a public servant in the discharge of their duty) and 447 (criminal trespass) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). These charges stem from a formal complaint filed by Police Sub-Inspector TR Akbari, Indian Express reported.
According to the FIR, at approximately 3:30 pm, a spectator seated in the gallery attempted to leap over the barricade. When Akbari and his team tried to intervene, the individual pushed them aside and jumped the barricade onto the ground while the Indian side was batting.
Akbari, stationed at the Kalupur police station, had been assigned to match duty at Motera. In his complaint, Akbari noted that when apprehended by security personnel and questioned about his actions, Wen Johnson claimed, "I am a big fan of Virat Kohli." Inspector Virajsinh Janaksinh Jadeja has been tasked with conducting the investigation, as per the FIR.
