A 22-year-old suspected mastermind behind the kidnapping and killing of two teens in Manipur has been apprehended by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Pune, officials announced on Friday (13 October).
Paolunmang, the prime suspect, was arrested by a CBI special investigation team on Wednesday and subsequently transported to Guwahati, Assam.
Following his court appearance, the CBI secured permission to detain him until 16 October. The arrest is linked to a case that stirred widespread outrage across the country.
Earlier, on 1 October, the CBI had arrested two men, Paominlun Haokip and Smalsawm Haokip, and two women, Lhingneichong Baitekuki and Tinneilhing Henthangand in Manipur's Churachandpur in connection with the same case.
The victims, 20-year-old Phijam Hemanjit and 17-year-old girl Hijam Linthoingambi, who went missing on 6 July, were found dead in disturbing images that surfaced on social media on 25 September, triggering student protests in Manipur's capital, Imphal.
