The CBI plans to interrogate ex-Jammu and Kashmir governor Satya Pal Malik regarding the alleged insurance "scam" in the Union Territory.

This inquiry stemmed from Malik's claim of being offered bribes to approve related files, as revealed by officials, reports PTI.

The CBI team visited Malik's home in Som Vihar in the RK Puram area at 11.45 am, seeking clarifications on his claims. They clarified that Malik isn't involved in the case as an accused or suspect yet.

For a second time in just seven months, Malik, a former governor of several states, will face questioning by the CBI. He gave his statement in October of last year after completing his gubernatorial duties in Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Goa, and Meghalaya.

Following the CBI's request for clarifications, Malik took to Twitter and said that "I have exposed the sins of some people by speaking the truth. Maybe that's why I have been called. I am the son of a farmer, I will not panic. I stand by the truth."

The CBI initiated two FIRs in connection with the allegations of corruption raised by Malik. The cases pertained to contracts awarded for a group medical insurance scheme for government employees and for civil work related to the Kiru hydroelectric power project in Jammu and Kashmir, valued at Rs 2,200 crore.

During his term as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir between 23 August 2018, and 30 October 2019, Malik had alleged that he was offered a bribe of Rs 300 crore to clear two files.
