Congress passed seven resolutions in its working committee meeting held on Monday (9 October) in New Delhi including one on the Palestinian issue.
The release says, "The CWC expresses its dismay and anguish on the war broke out in the Middle East where over a thousand people have been killed. The CWC reiterates its long-standing support for the rights of the Palestianian people to land, self-government and to live with dignity and respect."
"The CWC calls for an immediate cease-fire and for negotiations to begin on all outstanding issues including the imperative issues that have given rise to the present conflict," the release concludes.
The Congress' stance stands in contrast to that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who expressed solidarity with Israel and called the attack by Hamas militants in Palestine "terrorist attacks".
Meanwhile, Israel has officially been put at war, as announced by the Prime Minister's Office following a vote by the security cabinet. This decision allows for the execution of significant military activities.
The other six CWC resolutions are related to the Sikkim cloudburst, caste census, raids on journalists, Manipur issue, RBI data on savings in Indian families and upcoming assembly elections.
