Vimal Kumar, 35, a reporter with the Hindi-language daily newspaper Dainik Jagran, was killed in Bihar's Araria district early on Friday (18 August), as reported by news agency PTI.
The police said Kumar was shot dead at his residence in the Raniganj market area at around 5.30 am.
According to the police, four gunmen pulled up to Kumar's doorstep and called out to him. In response, the journalist stepped outside. Then, the gunmen fired at him and fled the spot. Kumar died on the spot.
Ashok Kumar Singh, the SP of Araria, informed PTI that the body of the deceased has been taken for post-mortem and the authorities are making efforts to apprehend the suspect.
Meanwhile, a forensic team, along with a dog squad, is investigating the scene of the crime.
"In the preliminary investigation, the cause of the incident is said to be the old enmity of the deceased with his neighbour," Bihar Police said in an X post.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar reportedly described the killing as a dukhad (sad) incident. "How can a journalist be killed like this," he is said to have told reporters in Patna.
