The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed an FIR against Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a designated 'individual terrorist,' for his recent video threatening passengers on Air India flights.
According to a statement released by the agency as per Hindustan Times, Pannun has been booked under sections 120B, 153A & 506 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 10, 13, 16, 17, 18, 18B & 20 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
Pannun, founder of the banned Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), warned Sikhs not to fly on Air India after 19 November, suggesting a threat to their lives. He further declared that Air India's operations would face global restrictions.
Pannun's statements and threats have prompted heightened vigilance and investigations by security forces in Canada, India, and other countries served by Air India, as stated by the agency.
The NIA's action comes as Pannun faces previous FIRs, including one in Ahmedabad in September related to threats linked to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Pannun was designated an 'individual terrorist' by India on July 1, 2020.
