'Pakistan Should Protect Its Minorities, It Is Their Reponsibility': MEA After Brutal Murder Of Hindu Woman In Sindh Province

The Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday (29 December), took notice of the alleged brutal rape and beheading of a Hindu woman in Pakistan, and asked Pakistani authorities to take care of its minorities.

Speaking at the weekly media briefing, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Arindam Bagchi, said, "We have seen reports about it, but we do not have specific details on the case, but we have re-iterated that Pakistan should protect its minorities along with their safety, security and well-being, which is their reponsibility."

The incident, in which a 44-year-old Hindu woman was murdered and her  body was found mutilated in a mustard field in the Sindh province of Pakistan, has triggered fears among the community and incited protests.

Krishna Kumari, a Hindu Senator from the Pakistan People's Party in Sindh Province took to Twitter to condemn the brutal murder.

Sindh has become a hotbed for repression for Hindus, with forceful conversions of Hindu women and attacks on minorities becoming rampant in the state.

Recently, a Sindhi cleric Mian Abdul Haq, popularly known as Mian Mithu, was sanctioned by the United Kingdom government for forced conversions and marriage of girls from religious minorities. Previously, the United States had placed Pakistan on a list of “countries of particular concern” for religious freedom.

The woman, who belonged to the Bheel community, is survived by her four children.
